CAFF Insurance vs. Typical Insurance

Aircraft insurance is similar to automobile insurance. The insurance policy protects you as the pilot from liability as a results of your actions and the aircraft from damage that occurs. When you rent an aircraft, the insurance is included and paid for in the rental price. CAFF has a very special policy, in that you are a named insured on the policy.

Others flight schools and flying clubs name the company as the named insured and you as the renter pilot. This major difference relieves you from liability from damage to the aircraft should the insurance company decide that your actions were inappropriate. Without this provision, in certain circumstances you could be held libel by the insurance company for damage to the aircraft. CAFF also has no deductible amount that you must pay should there be an accident.
